Original Co-Founders of Friends and Co. Dance Intensive & Technique Dance Competition

Friends and Co. Dance was founded in 2016 by Master Teacher, Ms. Charis Moses and Studio Owner, Ms. Kari Ward Kolmetz.  Brought together through love of dance and training dancers. The two found that they had an interest of sharing their philosophy of community and empowerment of young dancers.  Charis has committed to continuing the journey of Friends and Co. and is the current owner and director.

Charis has taught for over 30 years and her students have received scholarships and danced professionally with renowned organizations such as the Kirov Academy, SYTYCD, Broadway, Complexions, N.Y.C.B., Pennsylvania Ballet, Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, Washington Ballet, Richmond Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, Alvin Ailey, Houston Ballet, Interlochen, San Francisco Ballet, North Carolina School of the Arts, Boston Ballet, American Ballet Theatre, Bad Boys of Dance, Dance Theater of Harlem, Purchase Conservatory, North Carolina Dance Theater, Alonzo Kings Lines Ballet, Susan Farrell Workshops, Universal ballet, Texas Ballet Theater, Anaheim Ballet, The Rock School, Debbie Allen School and many more.

She has choreographed/staged full-length ballets such as The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, La Fille’ Mal Garde’, Sleeping Beauty, Don Quixote, Raymonda and original works as well.  Charis has created new works for the Joffrey Ballet School in NYC and Jazz/Contemporary Company, including a Louis Vuitton collaboration in 2013′. She has also taught in New York City for Alvin Ailey, Dance Theatre of Harlem and Dance New Amsterdam and many more. While in Los Angeles, CA she served as the Ballet Mistress for Lula Washington Studios and Company for over four years before moving back to the East Coast.  While in LA, she choreographed for the nationally televised (BET), Celebration of Gospel, for artist Donnie McClurkin and Kurt Carr. Musical credits include Mame, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Wizard of Oz and Into the Woods.

She also choreographed the 1995 local DC Jr. Miss Pageant and will be choreographing the DC event again for 2016. Charis judged the national Distinguished Young Woman (America’s Jr. Miss), event in 2014 and in 1984 served as the winner for the District of Columbia. In summer 2010’ and 2012’, she served as the assistant director to Carol Foster for the Duke Ellington’s School of the Arts Summer Intensive & Musical.  This is the fourth year of being on the faculty for IABD and is on their New Generation Board of Directors.  She has judged for Starpower, Beyond the Stars, Starquest, NDS and more…. She has also been on convention/intensive faculty for Joffrey Intensive, Leon Dance intensive (under good friend Dorrell Martin) and Collaborative Dance Experience

Charis is certified by American Ballet Theatre through levels V and will continue her certification process this year…
